Deep Ellum IPA

This beer from the Deep Ellum brewery is a beer worthy of the name. Before this review begins, I want to set expectations for how I like my beers. I have had my share of beers and can definitely appreciate a good IPA. That being said, I dont want to feel like a beer kicked my ass with bitterness. No on to the review!

This is an intersting beer as it is a craft beer…in a can. Not the normal, but I have to applaud Deep Ellum for being different and bringing a craft beer option to future summer activities like pool parties, lake days, or floating the river.

The first impression is the light fruit smell that you get from the beer. Very citrusy with a hint of bitterness aka Grapefruit. You get the sweet while also being able to truly appreciate the hop profile of the beer.

Once you take a sip, you get a slightly sweet first taste that slowly turns into a bitter hops finish. This slow transition makes the beer an extremely easy to drink as you get to appreciate the entire hop profile.

The fact that the bitterness does not smack you in the face, shows that the Deep Ellum brewers have most likely implemented a variety of different types of hops at different times during the brews boiling process. This allows for the bitterness of the hops to take different levels of effect on the beer.

This hop profile is very balanced and allows for the drinker to be able to truly appreicate the flavor of the beer. This light IPA is not for those drinkers who truly enjoy an IPA that is bitter beyond belief. This is an IPA that is great for an afternoon of drinking or for an easy introduction into IPAs for those who may just be learning to appreciate IPAs.
