Beer Review - Shiner Oktoberfest

Beer: Oktoberfest/Marzen
Style: Oktoberfest
ABV: 5.8%
Here is what we thought:
Appearance: Copper colored. Filtered and clear. Two-finger tall head - which was an off-white or beige color. Visually there was a lot of carbonation.
Smell: Yeast. Doughy, banana bread.
Taste: Very metallic. Like putting a penny in your mouth and it overwhelms the other flavors. As the beer opened up after about 15 minutes the metallic taste disappated slightly, but it was still in the finish. Tastes of bread and clove spice.
Mouthfeel: Effervescent and dry.
Drinkability: Light to medium bodied. Tastes lighter than the color of the beer would make you think. Again, very effervescent and almost a little sharp and lowers the drinkability.
Verdict: Lacks depth and character. The metallic taste was over-whelming. This is not a good showing from Shiner and I was glad when I finished. Would not purchase again.
Grade: D+

I wasn't that fond if it either. Sam Adam's seems to be the standard to which Oktoberfest beers are held now

Let me start by saying I am a huge fan of mdoestic light beer. I rarely stray from these beers as well. But I am one for trying different beers in hope that I will find another beer to drink my stupidity away. Friday night, 2 friends and myself chipped in on a six pack of this Spaten Oktoberfest. We each poured a good half a bottle in our glasses and began with smelling the beer. It smelled light, crisp. I took the first taste, and my friends knowing me, expected me to make a bitter face. But I did not. I actually found this beer to be very pleasant to drink. It was smooth, and easy for me to enjoy. Only one of us three that night found the taste to be unpleasant, but everyone has different tastes. I'd like to thank Mike for mentioning this site and the suggestion of new beers for me to try, and look forward to this week's beer of choice.[]
